Temptation Bundling

Have you heard of this psych term?

Maybe you're already engaged in this behaviour and you don't even know it?!

Temptation Bundling refers to coupling a behaviour that you SHOULD do with something you WANT to do.

The first time I can really pinpoint engaging in TB behaviour was binge watching Downton Abbey DVD's (yes...before we had Netflix!) while I rode a stationary bike. I didn't have time to watch anything outside of my exercise time so I couldn't wait to get on the bike and tune in! I had no idea at the time that I had created a very positive and motivating exercise behaviour. Incidentally, it was one of the most fit I have ever been entering into Christmas season, pre-holiday treats could not compete with my Downton/Bike time!

Examples:

Save your favourite podcast while you're out running or walking to work (in the future:)

Catching up with a friend on a long walk.

Netflix and (no..not chill)....stationary bike, rowing machine, treadmill.

Favourite playlist while strength training.

Walking or Running with your dog.

My kid's favourite....watching T.V. while cleaning the kitchen after dinner!

Exercise should be fun...enjoying your chosen activities is the BEST way to stay consistent!
